At present, the profound changes unseen in a century across the world are accelerating their evolution, the global economic governance system is undergoing deep restructuring, and the Chinese economy is at a critical period of transition from high-speed growth to high-quality development. Issues such as financial security, industrial chain resilience, common prosperity, and digital economy development have become major propositions crucial to the long-term peace and stability of the country and national development. Against the backdrop of this era, the perspective of a single discipline is no longer sufficient to respond to the complex reality. There is an urgent need to break down the theoretical barriers among disciplines such as Marxist political economy, modern finance, development economics, political science, and international relations, in order to construct an independent Chinese knowledge system of economics and finance.

To respond to the needs of this era, the Institute of Economy and Finance，School of Marxism, Tsinghua University, was established on April 21, 2018. Relying on the profound theoretical foundation and academic influence of the School of Marxism at Tsinghua University, the Institute builds a base that integrates theoretical research, policy analysis, talent cultivation, and academic exchange. It persists in using Marxist standpoints and methods to analyze core propositions such as the contemporary capitalist economy, the socialist market economy with Chinese characteristics, global financial governance, international economic cooperation, opening-up and the security and resilience of supply chain. Dedicated to China's economic and financial development strategies, the Institute seeks to develop itself into a university-based think tank grounded in Chinese practice with international influence.

The Institute regularly holds academic seminars, policy roundtable forums, and public lectures, building a multi-disciplinary dialogue platform among government, academia, business and industry. Looking to the future, the Institute will respond to the questions of the times with solid theoretical research and serve the needs of the country with pragmatic policy recommendations.
